Each year we do a gig for Breast Cancer Network NZ http://www.bcn.org.nz/ a charity dedicated to preventing breast cancer, and in the meantime – just supporting those women and families that deal with the effects of breast cancer every day.

This year as a closer to Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October) my poem for mum was featured by BCN and Living Nature: http://www.livingnature.com – Living Nature  support the cause in a proactive and practical way – simply by using natural products in their makeup – YAY!!

So – as an intro blog to share a little of me – and to say “see ya” to the fundraising for 2013, here’s the poem:

I miss you mama every day I wake in the morning and think of you I see you smile in your own quiet way and I reach for your dear face I think of you mama all the time I know it’s a life for living but like fine wine it was better with you in it so I set up this concert for the cause you chose to show that I too want to fight the reason you left and maybe just maybe even tomorrow there’ll be one less person in the world bereft… damn cancer… I know! I know! it’s a word not a sentence but I miss you mama every day and so while we fought that damn word with every breath it feels like a paragraph… even a novel… of loss… to me jl2010

And here’s the song I wrote about what it feels like moving on without that “life anchor”

oh and I promise most of my posts won’t be about sads. They’ll be about music and flowers and unicorns and hugs and LAUGHTER!
